INFO/FAQ

game info
Congratulations! You've been selected for a journey to outer space, the final frontier. Ah, you didn't want one? You'd rather stay on Earth, even in the wrong dimension? Did you really want a post-apocalyptic setting that bad? Unfortunately, you're on this space roller-coaster now, and we're headed for a far nicer planet. Word of warning, though. There may be some other participants who really aren't team players. In fact, it'd be more accurate to call them aliens in every sense of the word.

Your mettle will be tested, your bonds will be twisted, but at the end of the day it's nothing good ol' teamwork can fix, eh? Good ol' teamwork, and an airlock.

THE BASICS:
[community profile] convives is a private, short-term mafia style murdergame based off of Among Us. Characters will awaken on a wayward space ship with several aliens on board; they'll need to complete tasks in order to reach their destination and freedom safely, all the while dealing with murderous aliens hidden among the crew.

The game is slated to run for three (3) weeks, starting on November 28th and ending on December 19th. It is designed to run with 10-15 characters, not counting mod characters. Due to the abbreviated nature of the game, along with the testing of several new mechanics, [community profile] convives is open only to those who have received a direct invite from the moderators: Limon and Fyre. Feel free to follow [plurk.com profile] convive for updates! Also, please note that the mechanics depicted below are subject to change as we prepare for the game to start; they'll be finalized a week before reserves/apps open.

FAQ
Do I need to be familiar with Among Us to play?
Not at all! It might be helpful to check out a video of gameplay, but all rules will be explained here and in game. Additionally, mechanics have been adapted from actual gameplay to better suit DWRP.
What is the reserve & apps schedule?
Reserves and apps will both open one (1) week prior to game start, on November 21st, 1PM EST. You will have 48 hours to get your reserve in; additional invites may be extended depending on reserve numbers.
Are there any character restrictions?
All characters need to be at least sixteen (16) years of age or in the case of clones/artificial life mentally sixteen (16), and reasonably human sized. If they can fit on a spaceship, have digits to solve puzzles with and can move around comfortably, they’re OK! Additionally, OC’s and CRAU’s are not allowed. Casts will be capped at two (2) characters per canon. If you have any questions on whether your character would be allowed, drop a line below!
Do characters still have their powers or other status conditions?
Character powers will be off for the duration of the game. If your character has a special need beyond normal food/sustenance or other unusual conditions such as biological conditions, accommodations will be handled on a case by case basis. If you have any specific character concerns, feel free to ask here on the FAQ or detail them in your app.
What are the activity requirements?
There will be no formal activity requirements, but we do ask that you please be active! There are a number of things we’re trying out and having everyone present to play them out is the best way to get that done.
What’s the game schedule?
We’re doing things slightly differently to accommodate for the mechanics of the game. The OOC schedule is as follows:

Monday-Friday: Mingle (Monday, 1 pm EST)
Friday: Body Discovery (1 pm EST)
Saturday: Detailed Investigation, Trial, Execution

Trial will begin at 1pm EST and run until 8pm EST, with a half hour break at 5pm EST.

IC’ly, Saturday and Sunday will not be written into the logs; body discovery, investigation, trial and execution will all take place IC’ly Friday. However, players are free to create after parties or other gatherings as they like.

How do investigations and trials work, exactly?
The flow of investigation and trial will go roughly as follows:

Body Discovery (OOC Friday): Characters will have the opportunity to scour the ship for the bodies of those murdered. Body Discovery ends when the body (or bodies) is found and a death announcement is made by the ship NPC.

Investigation & Trial (OOC Saturday): Investigation and trial will take place in parallel. Small groups of characters will have the opportunity to examine the body (or bodies) and crime scene(s) during trial, as well as to visit other locations relevant to the murder to gather evidence. Meanwhile, those not investigating will be in charge of putting the evidence together and directing investigation and checks as in a normal trial.

Voting: Characters will be able to vote IC’ly throughout the trial, and votes may OOC’ly be updated at any point before the end of trial. They will be able to vote for one (1) culprit and scapegoats are possible. The character voted for will be executed at the end of trial.
What are tasks like? Is 100% tasks completion required?
Tasks will be given at the start of each week and divided into three (3) different categories. Characters will have all week to undertake them.

Investigation-style, (limited to a # of players): Similar to Escape the Room puzzles, characters will be given an objective to accomplish EX: diverting power from the greenhouse. They will then have a limited amount of time to explore the area and accomplish their goal using whatever objects and environment is around them. This time limit will be measured in the number of moderator tags and not in chronological time.

Logic-style, (open to all players): Tried and true logical puzzles of varying flavors. While all characters (and players) can brainstorm the answer, only a finite number of tries is permitted before the puzzle is considered failed.

Collective-style, (open to all players): Team based activities that are centered around character-character interactions. There will be no limits in place for this style of task, instead characters will be evaluated based on the number of interactions undertaken as a whole.

100% task completion will not be required, however task completion will effect the ending of the game.
Are private conversations (PC’s) allowed?
Yes. However, PC’s should not be used in place of weekly top-levels. Additionally, we ask that you keep in mind the confines of a spaceship while setting up PC’s—the chance of two characters having a private conversation in the cafeteria would be pretty slim!
How did my character get here? Where are they going?
Sometimes you are messing with technology to save civilization and Things Happen. Don’t worry, there’s a way to get home! Worry a little, because that requires the entire length of this game. Characters will be expected to deal with living on the spaceship until the end of its voyage (or the end of the crew, whichever comes first); they will be told that it is heading for a distant colony that can reverse the accident that brought them here.

While characters were not asked for their permission to be brought to this world (freak accidents in the name of science, you understand), any entirely combative characters who would make it their goal to blow up the ship would not have been brought on board, and thus are not suitable for the game. IC’ly, they would have agreed to board the ship and be put to sleep for their journey. However, this does not mean your character needs to be a hero, a saint, or even largely helpful (though it may be their funeral, literally, if they do nothing on board).

Please keep this in mind when selecting characters for the game, and feel free to contact us if you have any concerns.
What are characters allowed to bring with them?
Characters will be allowed one (1) personal item from home along with a basic survival kit(?) that will be given to them on board. They will arrive wearing 1 set of clothes from home; the spaceship will provide shiny space jumpsuits, but unfortunately that’s about it.
What happens when my character dies?
There will be no graveyard in this game. Dead characters will come back as ghosts and will still be allowed to participate in a limited capacity.
